One of our Haemoglobinopathy Service patients in Wandsworth, Angel, aged 13, who is living with sickle cell disorder has been featured in the book My Blood, Your Blood. The book, written by award-winning children’s author and educationalist, Laura Henry-Allain MBE - creator of JoJo and Gran Gran, aims to raise awareness of sickle cell disorder and encourage blood donations within Black communities.

Refurbished rehabilitation unit opens at Edgware Community Hospital
This month CLCH opened a newly refurbished unit for patients receiving rehabilitation, often after a long hospital stay or mobility difficulties following a fall or a stroke. The care and rehabilitation delivered in this space, now called Edgware Community Rehabilitation Unit, enables patients on their journey to recover in the comfort of their own home.

CLCH backs apprentices to build careers in community healthcare
CLCH is supporting the expansion of opportunities and alternative routes into healthcare as part of the NHS Long Term Workforce plan, increasing the number of registered nurses and Allied Health Professionals qualifying through apprenticeship routes. Following the start of the Registered Nursing Degree Apprenticeship at CLCH in 2021, 18 nurses have now completed, taking up registered nurse roles at CLCH.

This International Volunteer Day, we’re celebrating the time and care donated by our volunteers to our communities across London and Hertfordshire. Volunteers working in Barnet, have made a particular difference by supporting patients to get to vital clinical appointments. To get patients the care they require, as well as save clinicians’ valuable time, CLCH volunteers were recruited as reminders earlier this year. During the call to the patient or their relative they would update on the time and location of the appointment, advise on travel to get there, or reschedule if necessary.

Staff across CLCH strive to make every contact count (MECC) with the residents that they visit. This means using day to day interactions and opportunities with individuals to initiate conversations on behaviour change. CLCH’s staff in Barnet (the North Central Division) have brought together useful guidance cards about how to reduce mould, for all CLCH staff and patients, developed from NICE (National Institute for Healthcare Excellence) information and experience and knowledge of our CLCH clinicians.

Community-based specialist palliative care review: Interim engagement outcome report June 2022
Following a widespread engagement exercise where North West London residents shared their views on what is important to them about community-based specialist palliative care for adults, the North West London Integrated Care System have published an interim engagement outcome report. The report contains all the feedback from local residents and those who have first-hand experience of palliative and end of life care received in North West London. The feedback will be used by a model of care working group, which will be responsible for designing, planning and mobilising the future model of care for adult community-based specialist palliative care. CLCH continues to work with its partners to support the development of services to ensure that are clinically to a high standard but also meet the needs of patients and their families. Windrush Day - 22 June
On June 22 1948, 492 workers were brought from the Caribbean to Essex’s Tilbury Docks on the Empire Windrush ship to help rebuild the United Kingdom after World War Two. Many of the Windrush generation would go on to work in, and thus support the establishment of, the newly created National Health Service (NHS). On this day we recognise and thank all those who arrived on Empire Windrush (known as the Windrush Generation).

Local residents in North West London are being invited to the latest in a series of engagement events about community-based specialist palliative care services. The events aim to seek feedback from residents on how they should provide high quality care and a good patient, family and carer experience. Community-based specialist palliative care services are palliative and end of life care services that are provided in a community setting (i.e. patient’s home, hospice inpatient unit or day care services, care home, community hospital/centre) by services with care professionals who have been specialist trained in this field.

Anti-Bullying Week 2021: Say "One Kind Word" to staff
Today (Monday 15 November 2021) marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week across England, a national campaign run by the Anti-Bullying Alliance to highlight and tackle instances of bullying. The week itself runs from Monday 15 November until Friday 19 November. We would like to remind patients and service users that any instances of disrespectful, abusive or unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated.

Last week (4 November) CLCH’s tissue viability nursing team in Merton won Student Community Placement of the Year at the Student Nursing Times Awards. In 2020, our Westminster Homeless Health team received the commendation for their commitment to providing a positive learning environment where students could practice their skills and develop their understanding of the nursing profession.

CLCH celebrates NHS staff achievements
On Thursday 4 November, Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH) celebrated the efforts of its NHS staff and their achievements from the past year. The Trust’s annual Staff Awards ceremony is key highlight in the Trust’s calendar. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was held virtually for the second year running to recognise the phenomenal efforts of colleagues across London and Hertfordshire.

Green achievements at CLCH

International Stammering Awareness Day: Support and Resources from CLCH
Today (Friday 22 October 2021) is International Stammering Awareness Day – an annual event to raise awareness of stammering across the world. According to figures from stutteringhelp.org, it is estimated that worldwide, around 70 million people have a stammer or stutter. This accounts for around one percent of the world's population.

CLCH health visiting achieves UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Reaccreditation
Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH) is delighted to announce that our health visiting service in the inner London boroughs (Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea) were the first in London to achieve the UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Sustainability Award and this has been followed by Gold Reaccreditation in January 2021. In addition, our Ealing health visiting team has achieved Stage Two Accreditation and are now working towards Stage Three Accreditation with the aim of achieving this by the end of 2021.
