Volunteering brings huge value to the NHS and enhances existing services and the experiences of people who use services. 

Volunteering is an activity that involves spending time, unpaid, doing something that aims to benefit others. Volunteering is also a great way to meet people, make friends, learn skills, gain in confidence and, most importantly, make a direct difference to people's lives.

What can I do as a volunteer?

There are a range of volunteering roles and opportunities with us, including:

  • Reception/administration:Volunteers provide a warm welcome to visitors and help direct them around the Hospital and deal with any other general enquiries assist with General admin - filing, photocopying.
  • Ward assistance: Volunteers befriend patients on the wards, assist with distribution of meals and other tasks that are of benefit and comfort to the patients and staff on wards.

Minimum requirements:

In order to be considered for one of our volunteer roles you should be:

  • Over 16 years of age
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months service
  • Have good communication skills

Work experience:

We do not offer any work experience or shadowing opportunities in the Volunteers Service Team. If you would like further information on these areas please the local clinic/centre that you are interested in


How do I become a volunteer?

Application process:

If your application is successful you will be given an introduction and training in the areas that you will be assisting.

We do receive a large volume of applications so please note that if you do not hear from us within four weeks of submitting your application you should consider that you have not been successful on this occasion. Due to the number the large number of applications we receive, it is not possible to acknowledge receipt of application forms or provide feedback on applications.  We do keep applications on file for 6 months, should any suitable vacancies become available we may contact you.
